Jackie Heads to Brazil for Embraer

Jackie heads to Brazil to collect his jet and film commercials for Embraer.

Sao Paulo, Feb. 1 (CNA) Hong Kong-born actor Jackie Chan is scheduled to arrive in Brazil Friday to visit Brazilian aerospace conglomerate Embraer's headquarters in the science city of Sao Jose dos Campos, corporate sources said Wednesday.

Betting on his popularity and influence in the Chinese-speaking world, Embraer has hired Chan to help promote its commercial aircraft in Asia, particularly in China.

During his visit, Chan will model in photoshoots and act in commercials for Embraer, the world's fourth-largest aircraft company.

Chan will then leave Brazil aboard his newly procured Embraer 14-seater Legacy 650 jet worth US$30 million. According to media reports, Chan has learned basic flying skills in China, but cannot fly a plane on his own.

Embraer Chairman Frederico Curado said the company hopes Chan's endorsement will help more Asian people come to understand its products.

Noting that China has emerged as the world's second-largest economy, Curado said China's commercial aircraft market is estimated to be worth US$21 billion over the coming decade.
